Waiheʻe Ridge Trail Maui | Waterfalls, Rainforest & Ocean Vistas

Hiking the Waiheʻe Ridge Trail on Maui is an unforgettable way to experience the island’s lush West Maui Mountains. This moderate 4-mile round-trip hike climbs steadily through rainforest and open ridgelines, offering panoramic views of deep green valleys, waterfalls, and the sparkling Pacific Ocean. Early in the hike, I caught a great view of Makamakaʻole Falls, and as I climbed higher, I could see several other waterfalls tucked into the distant valleys.

When I reached the top, the summit was wrapped in clouds, creating a moody and dramatic atmosphere. Even without a clear view at the very top, the sweeping vistas along the way made the effort completely worth it. The trail was muddy on the day I went, which added to the challenge and fun—good hiking shoes were definitely a must. With 1.5K feet of elevation gain, Waiheʻe Ridge is a steady climb but pretty doable if your are prepared for a bit of mud and a rewarding workout.
