Cliff Jumping at End of the World | Big Island Hawaii

Cliff jumping at End of the World near Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii was one of my most memorable adventures while living on the island. The trail to the cliffs is short but scenic, and along the way we always spotted a surprising number of wild goats—at least a dozen each visit. The cliffs themselves are dramatic, with waves crashing against the lava rock below, and there’s even a small cave where experienced climbers can try deep water soloing.

The first time we visited, the ocean was far too choppy to jump safely. Massive swells slammed into the rocks and the bottom of the cliffs, making the conditions extremely dangerous. On our second trip, the water was calmer, and I was finally able to take the leap into the clear, deep water below. Even then, climbing back out was tricky—the rocks are sharp above the water, slippery beneath it, and sea urchins make the exit even more challenging.

End of the World is not for beginner swimmers. The swells can be unpredictable, and getting out of the water safely is just as important as making the jump. But when the conditions are right, the adrenaline and the views make it an unforgettable experience. This spot is a true cliff jumping gem in Hawaii.
