Anaeho'omalu Bay Beach | Best beaches on the Big Island

Anaehoʻomalu Bay Beach, often called A-Bay, is one of the most family-friendly beaches we visited on the Big Island of Hawaii. We spent a relaxing day here soaking up the sun and watching Hawaiian green sea turtles resting on the warm sand—it was such a cool sight to see them up close! The wide, sandy shoreline makes this an ideal spot for swimming, lounging, and even paddleboarding, and the calm waters are perfect for kids to play in.

While we tried snorkeling in the main beach area, the water was a bit murky during our visit. I've since heard the visibility is usually better on the north side of the bay, so that’s something we’d love to check out next time. Even without crystal-clear snorkeling, it was still an amazing place to spend the day. Between the turtles, the soft sand, and the peaceful vibe, A-Bay felt like the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a classic Hawaiian beach day.
