Climbing Mount Nebo | Highest Peak in the Wasatch Mountains

Mount Nebo, standing tall at 11,933 feet, is the highest peak in Utah’s Wasatch Range and a must-do for peak baggers. In this adventure, my friend and I take on the challenge of summiting this iconic mountain — a hike filled with rugged beauty, rewarding views, and a real sense of accomplishment.

The drive to the trailhead itself was a treat, winding along a scenic paved mountain road that twisted and turned through the forest. The weather was clear but hot, with a hazy layer of smoke in the distance from recent wildfires casting a unique light over the surrounding ridges. Early on in the hike, we spotted a small group of deer grazing quietly in the morning sun — a peaceful moment before the climb turned steep.

The ascent to Mount Nebo’s summit is no joke, with exposed ridgelines, long switchbacks, and plenty of elevation gain to test your endurance. But each step brought us closer to sweeping views of Utah’s mountains, valleys, and distant ranges. Standing on the summit, the panorama stretched for miles — a perfect reward for the effort.
